A class for 2nd edition AD&D.
The Dragon Avatar is a warrior that has sworn to protect (or destroy) all those who are defenseless to help themselves. They are the ultimate paladin, seek out and destroy all that is evil in the world. But most important of all, protect the dragons at all costs.
Note: To all, if you find this entry a bit of the mark of my first entry of the Dragon Avatar, it's because I've made some improvements.
All avatars start out very young. His god must decide whether or not he is worthy enough to be an Avatar. The babe mmust then choose the way of life of a paladin (or anti-paladin). All the while, the paladin has connected dreams and visions with his possible “Soul” mate. He then goes and adventures as a paladin and does paladin things (or anti-paladin things). At level 4 when a paladin calls for their war steed, he/she many ask his god for a spiritual connection with the dragon. If the god sees that the person has been worthy enough, then the paladin is shown a time when the baby dragon will be born. The paladin must rush there before the baby is born. If he makes it there on time, the ceremony begins. As the birth commences, the god spiritually connects the baby dragon and the paladin together. The dragon gains the intellegence, wit, willpower and some of the personality of the human while the human gains many abilities, all the while, they maintain telepathic conteact for the rest of their lives.
As you can see, it is not easy to become a Dragon Avatar.
General info:
Requirements: As paladin or Anti-paladin for the start, depending if you want to be a good dragon type avatar or an evil dragon type avatar. But the following must be met.
Intellegence must be the same as the dragon, moral must be the same amount as wisdom, constitution must be the same as base hit dice for that certain dragon.
To be an Avatar, you must have the title of the type of dragon you are connected to, therefore you cannot be a “Dragon Avatar” but a “Gold Dragon Avatar” for instance if you are connected to a gold dragon baby, or a “Red Dragon Avatar” if you are connected to a red dragon baby.
Requisities: As Avatar, Int, Wis, Con
Align: Paladin for Good Dragon Avatar, Anti-paladin for Evil Dragon Avatar.
When The transformation is complete, he starts at level 1 again, keeps all his hit points and goes up as a wizard.
Abilities:
Abilities have been altered due to transformation
Abilities:
As you pass levels, you go up in the dragon age category (If you pass to the 2nd level of experience of a wizard, then you are in age category 2.) Your THACO goes down as a warrior, same with saving throws.
Powers depend on age.
The avatar can only die when he AND the dragon are killed at the same time, but if the hit points do drop to zero, the avatar is unconcious until his soul mate can revive him (or raise dead of other spells like it can be cast.) His soul mate must ingest the others blood, just a drop is needed. (The dragon's blood is needed to revive his/her soul mate. It works vice-virsa too). Constitution is NOT lost.
Disadvantages:
The avatar gains the attitude of the dragon he has bonded with. (Gold dragons are benevolent, wise, make self-appointed quests to promote goodness, so this is the way you act.)
The avatar must eat the preferred food of the dragon type if he is to remain at full power. In other words, if you were a gold dragon avatar, then you would eat gems to remain at full power. The avatar can eat any food he wants to, but for every week the avatar does not have the preferred food, he gets a penalty of -1 to all rolls until he can sustain himself with the preferred food. After a month, no spellcasting can be done. A good thing about this is the avatar only needs to eat once a day.
After the breath weapon has been cast, the avatar takes 5 points of damage per level of the avatar, up to a maximum of 12×5.
The avatar stops progressing when 12th level has been reached. No experience can raise him above 12th level. No hit points can be gained if more experience has been gained. But if you do contiue passing levels according to the wizard experience table, your ThacO and saving throws do continue to progress.
Magic resistance works on all magic, hostile or friendly, so any attempts to heal by outside source still get a resistance throw to see if the spell fails. Resistance does not work on the soul mate, so spells can be casted to eachother noramlly.
The dragon has the choice of going it's own to adventure and has no obligation to stay with it's soul mate. After it has it's own adventures, it can, if it wants, come and adventure with it's mate later in life. But it usually leaves (5% chance to stay with it's mate at birth). As the avatar
The soul mates are connected mentaslly and spiritually. If either of them are affected by permenant spells or death, the other can feel that his soul mate is in trouble and must drop everything (ofcourse, if a cave exploration is in progress, you're not going to see eachother anytime soon) and go and help his soul mate.

Introduction
The previous version of this compendium was released close to fifteen years ago. With FidoNet long gone, and plain text out of style, I figured it was time to reformat this thing for the internet. This version includes seven spell submissions that didn'….
