to trust the burgher for the time being, since thieves guard the town
and wish to keep him out, but is annoyed at his lack of answers.
Brinn discovers that there are no guards inside the town. Due to poorly veiled questions, he acquires little information to begin with, but he finds himself sitting near four townsmen. Grenzig has never been well-guarded, but suddenly, a need arose, so the thieves were hired as an emergency measure. The townsmen stop talking when they realize Brinn is nearby. On Brinn's way back to the wall, he is robbed of all his money, and spends the rest of the night chasing down the thief and recovering his gold.

others run away, making the entire room much more crowded. Some guards
draw their swords, and some slash at people who come too close. The
burgher climbs onto someone's shoulders and brings the people to
action. They plow over the guards, many dying in the process.
