Looks like Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings movies: long shaggy hair, beard, cloak, high boots, riding wear, knee-length coat with many pockets. He has pointy ears, but doesn't know why. He keeps them hidden.

He always keeps his word. He always comes through on promises.
Black Song is a furrier. He claims to trap animals in the caves, but really gets them from the surface. The deception is due to the power of the Surface Guild, which controls all access to the surface.
Black Song accidentally killed his wife. He had a child, but hasn't seen him/her in 20 years. He'd do anything for his child.
He has a wizard friend who disappeared years ago.

Unfriendly, frugal, bizarre, reliable
Juanda is a professional wizard. people come to her for quick fixes. She doesn't like people telling her she can't do something, and some of her best spells, such as turning sea into sand, were developed in response to such challenges.
Juanda failed to complete her course at the wizard school.
Juanda is afraid of spiders.
The wizard school, and Master Wizardly (clearly a made-up name). There's some shame in that relationship, because Juanda failed to complete her training with Wizardly.

Swarthy, tall and wiry. Looks much younger than his 45 years.
Self interested, loyal, trustworthy, clever, witty. Can be condescending, since he feels like he's better than other people. He is self-confident, and afraid of failure. He'd do anything for his family. Glennard is a gambler.
Glennard was born to a wealthy family, who had very little respect for his career choice. They didn't think he could succeed, but he did. Now he owns and runs bar, which he supports through the business itself, and occasional mercenary work.
He was once hired to protect a powerful diplomat. They paid him a lot, and a lot of people were counting on him, but he did a bad job and the diplomat was killed due to Glennard's failure.
Glennard has two siblings with whom he doesn't get along. However, he has a strong allegiance to their children, and own adopted child, who is now an adult.
Glennard's spiritual guide is a meditative monk who has beliefs about connecting with the planet and deriving energy from space.

Plain looking, balding, very hairy, surprisingly alluring, tanned skin, lyrical tattoos.
Pretentious, driven, demonstrative
Behnerd tries overly hard to fit in, which can rub people the wrong way, but once you get to know him, he comes through even if it hurts his reputation. While not an exceptionally brave person, he puts himself at risk for a wide variety of causes.
He knows many people, but few respect him.
He doesn't like crows, with their beady eyes.
Behnerd grew up in a bard community, but strives to be a sailor. No one thought he could make it as a sailor, but 'twas his dream. He tells his parents he's more successful than he is.
Captain Gregory gave him his first chance as a sailor. Several people on Gregory's ship, including Archibald, the first mate, respected Behnerd. He feels like that's the last time he was really successful. He lost touch with the crew years ago. Later employers expected him to be a really good sailor, which he wasn't. He's nostalgic about Gregory's ship.
After Captain Gregory gave him his chance, went out on a short sea voyage. When he returned, he sent to his parents, so they would witness his triumphant return, but as he was waving at them, he fell off into the water. His parents shamefacedly walked away, composing a song for their boy.
The bard community lives outside the main city. Behnerd's parents are still alive.
